Family Dinner

“Family dinner is one of my favorite things during the holidays—it’s great having everyone in one place,” designer Rebecca Taylor said. ’Tis the affair to dress up without going overboard (save that for the mashed potatoes recipe you found on Pinterest). Taylor suggested pairing a black blouse with subtle-but-luxe detailing like lace with a printed trouser or play with textures. “[Wear with] a velvet…blazer. Something that [makes you] feel equally comfortable and put together.”

Bosses, clients and junior assistants mix and mingle at office parties, where the attire calls for something pretty and professional. “Pajama dressing is our new favorite way to get dressed up without looking like we’re trying too hard. This trend is comfortable to move in but can also be extremely elegant,” Bloomingdale’s fashion director of RTW Brooke Jaffe explained. DKNY’s contrast piped wide-legged pants and slouchy silk pullover blouse create a flattering silhouette that feels so luxe, you won’t need an extra cocktail to feel confident enough to wish the CEO happy holidays. Bonus: These pieces also work at the office. Opt for a softer lip color during work hours and put on a classic red for the gathering.

Christmas Morning

The calm before the storm, Christmas morning is a chance to spend some quality time with the immediate family. “I like to be…cozy,” Taylor said. The fringe on this fishnet sweater allows you to sport an of-the-moment trend without sacrificing comfort. Stay with the casual vibe by pairing with jeans or leggings.

The holiday season’s grand finale often means pulling out an LBD. This year, bring a little sparkle to the party in a show-stopping dress. “I love the softness of the cowl neck,” Jaffe said. The cinched waist adds the illusion of the en vogue hourglass figure and the mid-thigh hem shows off just the right amount of skin for a cocktail party. Let the dress shine by wearing with black pumps or steal the night by slipping on red velvet heels.
