We found your new snow-day sippers. Pindar Vineyards unveiled Dr. Dan’s Signature Collection Saturday at a pre-release party, which consists of a 2014 Merlot and 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Both figure to be the perfect winter and steak-dinner companions. The wines were made in a reserve style, using handpicked grapes, and aged in new French oak for 24 months. They are displaying rich, dark fruit flavors that pair perfectly with red meats on chilly nights.
The collection is personal for owner and director of vineyard management Pindar Damianos, who created it to honor his late father Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos.
“This collection…celebrates my father’s life and his contribution to Long Island Wine Country as one of its pioneers,” Pindar Damianos said.
Dr. Dan made Pindar Long Island’s second planted vineyard in the late 1970s but passed away in August 2014. The wines were made from grapes in his favorite vineyard blocks, which he would walk through often.
The wines are currently available to club members and will be released to the public in mid-February.
