Where to Listen to Live Music This February

Our music picks this month tell us that as the winter weather gets colder, the local music scene starts heating up!

8th–Peter Kanelous & Friends
RS Jones, Merrick

Kanelous, a virtuoso guitarist, presents an evening of folk-based Americana music at this popular Southwestern BBQ restaurant. The show always includes a cast of players such as Bill Palumbo, Rob Simone and one of the top bass players on the Island, Jeff “Shadow Groove” Goldstein.

12th–Shecky & The Twangtones
Beau’s Bar, Greenlawn

Journey down to this laid-back venue to catch a performance of “Twang Meets Grass” featuring Shecky & The Twangtones, an eclectic rock outfit, and the experimental bluegrass combo, Free Grass Union. Expect some fireworks during the show’s third set when both bands come together for a wild jam session.

23rd–Gail Storm
The Bayou, Bellmore

Enjoy an evening of earthy New Orleans music at a raucous Mardi Gras Kick-Off Party as played by this veteran blues artist who will be appearing with guitarist Joe Vicino.

28th–The Zone
Rachel’s Waterside Grill, Freeport

Fat Tuesday is upon us! If you’re looking for a New Orleans vibe be sure to catch The Zone at one of the best eateries on the Nautical Mile in Freeport. This combo is a funky outfit that is so adept at creating a Mardi Gras groove that you just might think you’re partying down on Bourbon Street!
