Quogue Wildlife Refuge, Quogue
Stroll through the 305-acre nature preserve that is home to bobcats, owls, falcons, eagles and other native New York animals. It’s open 365 days a year and is the ideal setting for downtime and reflection overlooking Pine Barrens, bogs, wetlands and a tidal estuary. Go.
Montauk Point State Park, Montauk

At The End, visitors are presented with gorgeous views of where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Block Island Sound. For the complete experience, walk along the rocky shoreline for a glimpse of the neighboring Montauk Lighthouse. The trails within the park can be used for hiking, cross-country skiing or watching the seals sun on the rocks offshore until April (tourist-watching doesn’t start until June). Go.
Corey Beach, Blue Point
For the early-morning risers, this is the place to be to catch a breathtaking sunrise. Located along the Great South Bay, Islanders can feel at one with the sea and get even better views along the fishing pier. Go.
Heckscher State Park, East Islip

Heckscher provides visitors with the best of both worlds. Sea enthusiasts, expect stunning views of the Great South Bay with Fire Island as the backdrop. Those who fancy flora and fauna can saunter through the 1,600 acres to see whitetail deer, a variety of birds and other wildlife. Go.
Robert Moses, Babylon
The beachfront is just as beautiful off-season as it is during the summer. Plus, visitors that head to Field 5 can take the 3/4 mile nature walk that leads directly to the Fire Island Lighthouse. What more could you ask for, especially on a day clear of clouds and crowds? Go.
