5 Things to Eat at Wahlburgers

Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg finally brought their comfort food gem to Long Island, making the long trip to Coney Island no longer necessary. The famous brothers, who opened the first Wahlburgers in Massachusetts in 2011, offer dishes inspired by their childhood thanks to Paul’s experience as a chef. Like the other locations around the country, the Port Jefferson Station spot (opened in December) is where a burger lover’s appetite will be satisfied. Leave calorie counting at the door and try five of the items customers are going back for.

This item isn’t Donnie’s favorite for no reason. The spicy burger comes with white cheddar, bacon and fresh jalapeños. The trick is in the housemade BBQ sauce and avocado spread. Gluten-free buns are also available for all burgers upon request.

O.F.D. Burger

The Wahlberg brothers are bringing a little bit of their hometown to Long Island with this burger. It’s “originally from Dorchestah”—aka Dorchester, the neighborhood in Boston where they grew up—and comes with Swiss cheese, bacon, sautéed mushrooms and housemade tomato jam. The burger is “heaven,” according to one foodie.

Housemade Pickles

Yup, homemade dill pickles are another plus to this restaurant. The pickles come with each of the four house burgers, including Paul’s favorite (The Our Burger featuring his signature wahl sauce). Customers have called these crunchy pickles a highlight of their meal.

Sweet Potato Tots

What’s a meal without a delicious side? Wahlburgers has three other sides to choose from—thin crispy onion rings, tater tots and yukon gold fries—but many diners prefer a taste of these crispy treats with their burgers. “Outstanding” and “awesome” were some words used to describe these tots with a twist.

Housemade Frappes

Take a break from Starbucks frappes and try something new. Wahlburgers offers homemade frappes made with farm fresh milk and local ice cream for $5.95 each. There’s a long list of flavors, including chocolate, strawberry, coffee and chocolate strawberry, giving those with a sweet tooth a few ways to satisfy it. Malt can also be added to any desired flavor.

Wahlburgers Port Jeff Station is located at 4837 Nesconset Hwy.
