No need to sneak bites of raw cookie dough any longer. DŌ, “New York City’s first ever cookie dough scoop shop,” has arrived and people are waiting on long lines to have a taste.
Founder and owner Kristen Tomlan first launched the business online about two years ago before opening the doors to the cozy shop in Greenwich Village in late January.
“The shop is inspired by my childhood passion for baking and indulging in cookie dough—straight from the mixing bowl,” the St. Louis native said. “At DŌ, I wanted to create a similar experience to an ice cream shop with a unique cookie dough twist.”
And that she did with a range of flavors including Chocolate Dream (brownie batter, Oreo cookies, chocolate chips), Salty & Sweet (sugar cookie, salted caramel, dark chocolate chips, sea salt) and Peanut Butter Snickerdoodle (peanut butter, cinnamon sugar, chocolate chips). They come in colorful cups or cones (some are pink!) with options of toppings.
The goodies continue with baked desserts like Cookie Dough Ice Cream Pie and a Cookie Dough Brownie topped with chocolate ganache. Vegan and gluten-free eaters also don’t have to miss out on the deliciousness since the store has options for them as well.
The best part? There’s no fear of getting sick—the desserts are made with pasteurized egg product and heat-treated, ready-to-eat flour.
What made you want to open the shop in New York City?
In my opinion, New York is home to some of the best food in the world and that includes sweets. Here, we have access to some of the top chefs, bakeries and people all of which we look to for inspiration. We love our location in Greenwich Village especially because of the NYU community and Washington Square park visitors in such close proximity.
How has it been since opening day?
We have had such a positive reaction since we opened [in January]. We have lines ranging from 1-2 hours from the second we open to well after closing. Though I never expected it to take off as much as it did, I am so overjoyed by the love and support we have received from fans visiting from all over the world.
Do you have a favorite flavor—or flavors—and why?
My favorite flavor is Heavenly—and it is heavenly to say the least! It’s made with a sugar cookie base and layered with Nutella, sea salt, caramel bits and chocolate chips. I love that it has a hint of every flavor including the sea salt, which tends to complement the other ingredients.
And what are some customer favorites?
Our Signature Chocolate Chip is our most popular flavor. Customers also enjoy our Confetti (signature base, sprinkles, white chips, chocolate chips) and our chocolate lovers are wild over the Brownie Batter (brownie batter, Oreo cookies, chocolate chips).
