Kick Off Summer With Killer Swimwear

Move over itsy bitsy bikinis. The time has come for high waisted bottoms, tulle skirts and halter-tops. No matter what your summer agenda entails, there is a style out there for everyone. Pulse spoke with Kendra Y. Hill, personal stylist and creative director at The Modern Disciple and uncovered the top six trends to kick off the 2017 swimsuit season.

High-Neck Tops

People often correlate swimwear with skimpy, barely-there pieces, but that’s a far cry from runway trends. “We are seeing more conservative and subtly sexy garments. The high-neck trend is a [great] way to cover up your chest and bust and be sexy without being too revealing.” Whether it’s a halter with strings, like this one from Lord & Taylor, or just mesh the high-neck is the perfect playful silhouette this season.

Retro

Meet the itsy bitsy bikinis older sister, the high-waist two-piece. “Though this style typically comes with a larger bottom, there is a sexy silhouette that this style portrays.” Between a chic halter-top and bow detail or polka dot print, this look is reigning supreme this summer.

Bodysuits

What better way to rock your summer style than wearing your swimsuit outside of the beach? “Traditional one-piece swimwear looks like it belongs strictly in the water. It is also usually a piece without snaps or zippers to secure it.” A bodysuit swimsuit can be worn pretty much anywhere with the appropriate bottom, like a flowy skirt or a pair of denim shorts. Once removed, it is a seamless transition to lounging beach or poolside. This zip-front chic black flower suit is sure to do the trick.

Nude

This color has become a wardrobe staple and it’s finally making its way to swimwear. “Designers have been showcasing these swimsuits in all of the 2017 shows. Offered in an array of gorgeous shades, there’s a nude for everybody.” Hill suggested a classic scoop neck one piece with 90s inspired high leg opening by Static Swimwear.

Crochet

Due to the recent spike in Bohemian trends, it’s no surprise that a crochet swimsuit makes the list. “The woman who is free-spirited in her wardrobe will be able to carry this vibe right over to the beach. Whether it’s a two-piece or a monokini, this style screams artsy and liberated!”

Ballet

A lot more swimsuits are emerging with flowy materials, tulle skirts and leotard-esque detailing. “This is the perfect look for a woman who identifies with a modern romantic style. They also embody one of the season’s hottest colors: blush.” Hill recommended Moda Operandi’s v-neckline with ruffle front details and a crisscross back.
