NYC Cocktail Brand The Garret Coming to Montauk

Arbor in Montauk is gearing up for its second season of serving straight-forward Mediterranean-style cuisine. But this time around outdoor dining and playfully elevated cocktails are part of the package. The Garret, a NYC based cocktail brand run by Den Hospitality, is bringing its talent for creating delicious beverages and a lively scene to Arbor’s new outdoor bar Memorial Day Weekend.

“We ate at Arbor last season and had an enjoyable experience,” said Grant Wheeler, the beverage director at Den Hospitality, whose NYC locations were recently named among the best speakeasy bars by Time Out New York. “The quality of the food and ambience were unique but we did notice the focus wasn’t on cocktails. It made sense when our paths crossed to combine our strengths.”

All of the cocktails will be named after household spices, an idea Wheeler saw breed success in the city.

“I thought it was a good way to play with different flavors in a way that was extremely transparent and also worked well for pairing with food. The idea is to introduce people to spirits they don’t normally drink, but because they recognize the spice, they might give it a try.”

Anticipated flavor combinations include the rosemary cocktail (Mezcal, Aperol, rosemary infused Velvet Falernum and lemon juice); the tarragon (rum, pineapple, tarragon and Greek yogurt) and the habanero (gin, elderflower, cucumber, habanero and lime). The names may not boast the same creativity as the beverages, but that’s all part of the recipe.

“I felt a cleaner and more simple approach would speak well to the menu.”

Garret staff will make the fresh cocktails, which guests can savor on the outdoor 40-seat patio dining area. The chic space has mahogany and sun-bleached wooden touches complemented by beautifully landscaped grounds and heaters for cool evenings. Regardless of the temperature, Wheeler promised the energy level will always be at its peak at Arbor this summer.

“It’s not called a cocktail party for nothing. The new beverage program will be intriguing and welcome…a more casual but uptempo and energetic environment throughout the entire property.”
