Where: Jones Beach State Park (1 Ocean Pkwy)
When: Saturday, May 27 & Sunday, May 28, 12-5pm
Why Go: A beach day you can’t miss! Bring the whole family to watch the United States Air Force Thunderbirds put on a thrilling show. Go.


What: The Great Brooklyn Grill Out BBQ
Where: The Food Sciences Academy at Long Island University (1 University Plaza)
When: Saturday, May 27, 2pm
Why Go: Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend to the fullest at this epic summer barbecue. Feast away on hot dogs, burgers, tacos and more. This event is complete with a grilled cheese competition, craft beers and live entertainment. Ages 21 and over. Go.

Long Beach

What: 5k and 10-mile races
Where: West Park Avenue and Magnolia Boulevard
When: Sunday, May 28, 8-9am
Why Go: Honor those who have served by running in the City Manager’s 5k or 10 Mile Race to Remember. All participants receive t-shirts and top finishers will take home awards. Go.


What: Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit
Where: University Place from 13th to 3rd St.
When: Saturday, May 27; Sunday, May 28; Monday, May 29th, 12-6pm.
Why Go: Take a nice break from the city’s usual attractions and head downtown to Greenwich Village. Artists from all over gather at Washington Square Park to showcase their work. They have everything from fine arts to mixed media. Go.

Port Washington

What: Memorial Day Commemoration and Fireworks Extravaganza
Where: North Hempstead Beach Park (175 West Shore Road)
When: Saturday, May 27, 6-11pm
Why Go: Help commemorate our fallen soldiers by attending a fireworks show in Port Washington. Live music will be performed. Go.

New York City

What: Fleet Week
Where: Various Locations throughout the city
When: Wednesday, May 24—Tuesday, May 30
Why Go: Enjoy ship tours, dive tanks, silent drill team performances, concerts and more at New York City’s annual Fleet Week. Commemorate fallen soldiers and learn about the U.S. Coast Guard during this weeklong celebration. Go.


What: Market Fair & Flea Market
Where: 960 Brush Hollow Road
When: Every Saturday and Sunday through December, 8am-4pm
Why Go: Shop for jewelry, clothes, antiques and much more at Westbury’s flea market, which boasts more than 100 different vendors from near and far. Go.

Old Bethpage

What: Decoration Day
Where: Old Bethpage Village Restoration (1303 Round Swamp Road)
When: Saturday, May 27 & Sunday May 28, 10am-4pm
Why Go: Bring the whole family to this event at Old Bethpage to remember those who have fallen. Expect historical crafts, concerts, a ceremony and parade. Go.


What: Memorial Day Weekend BBQ
Where: Arlo SoHo (231 Hudson St.)
When: Saturday, May 27, 2-5pm
Why Go: Why not skip the hassle of heading to the East End and spend your Saturday enjoying a barbecue in SoHo? This rooftop venue offers magnificent city views, various unlimited drinks and American classics like hamburgers and hot dogs. A live DJ will be in attendance to make this Memorial Day celebration everything you’ve dreamed of, minus the traffic. Go.

Where: Hawkins Avenue between Portion & Wittridge Roads
