New to the Nassau County dining scene, Da Gigi Trattoria & Bar opened in Lynbrook in July with a menu full of regional Italian delicacies. Chef and owner Pierluigi Sacchetti has teamed up with chef Nicola Schioppo, who brings experience from Florence, Italy. Light, fresh and filled with flavor, these are five must-try dishes that get better with every bite.
Salumi e Formaggi
Served with olives and peppers, the restaurant’s meat and cheese plate does not go light on authenticity. Diners can pick 4 ($12) or 6 ($15), and the flavor packages are endless. Looking for something savory? Try the dry salami, N’Duja sausage, pistachio dusted goat cheese and Tuscan pecorino with truffles.
The combination of baby arugula, fava beans, truffle pecorino and crispy zucchini flowers has been highly-praised among customers. Extremely rich and incredibly fresh, each forchettata is more addicting than the next. It is certainly a great start to the meal.
Gnocchetti Di Mare
What visit to an Italian restaurant is complete without pasta? Made with saffron gnocchi, crab meat and shrimp in a light rosé sauce, this dish has received much praise for leaving hearts and bellies full.
Involtini di Maiale “Golosi”
Tender doesn’t even begin to describe this dish. Pan seared pork filet mignon is stuffed with prosciutto, pecorino cheese and asparagus and then covered in a marsala wine sauce. Word to the wise: come hungry—this plate leaves diners full and still wanting more.
A great way to end the meal is with a cup of cappuccino and one of Da Gigi’s specialty desserts. Guests rave about the cannolis: generously-sized, sprinkled with powdered sugar and garnished with chopped pistachios.
