4 Denim Trends to Rock This Fall

Fall and denim go hand in hand—and you can’t go wrong sporting the classics while apple picking or taking a trip to a North Fork vineyard. But bold denim is a fashionable choice this fall. Dina Scherer, owner of the Manhattan-based boutique styling agency Modnitsa Styling, dished on four of her favorite denim trends to look out for next season.

Think pearl

Tone down the classy appeal of pearls by giving them a modern look with a little denim help. They are popping up on jeans whether it be near the pockets like Zara’s slim fit boyfriend jeans with pearls or the hem like Pilcro’s hyphen pearl mid-rise relaxed boyfriend jeans. Pearls are also just as trendy on jean jackets. But Scherer suggested keeping the rest of the look simple. Pair the pearled denim with a plain tee or oversized sweatshirt for a casual, fun look. “A little more maintenance is required for these jeans’ upkeep but the look is totally worth it!”

Go big with ruffles

Ruffles are making a flashy statement. Some brands (especially Citizens of Humanity) are throwing this design on jeans including on the sides of the pant leg or at the hem. Scherer pointed out that a ruffled detail tends to give off a romantic feel. It’s not such a bad idea to keep that vibe going throughout the rest of your ensemble. “It pairs well with other romantic accents like bows, lace and drapy fabrics.”

Stand out with embroidery

Floral patters are continuously taking over runways. The trend has translated to all types of denim, including jackets, pants, skirts, vests and overalls. “It’s a little boho and relaxed, so to create a more polished look, pair it with a structured blazer or button-down, or a leather jacket to add extra chic.” Express, Free People and Alice + Olivia are just a few of the brands honing in on this trend.

Break tradition with uneven and distressed hems

An eye-catching hem adds a great deal of edge to any outfit. It can also be versatile. “This is an easy trend that lends itself well to anything from tees and cozy sweaters to high heeled shoes or pointy toe flats and blousy tops paired with structured blazers.” Find some great pairs from the aforementioned brands as well as Rag & Bone and AG Jeans.
