Rooted in family and tradition, Gemelli Gourmet Market North has been dishing out authentic homemade Italian food to the people of Glen Head since 2016. Following recipes passed down from Mamma Gemelli herself, the family-owned operation will be participating at Pulse’s Island Tasting on Nov. 9 at the Mansion at Oyster Bay. Mamma Gemelli’s granddaughter Adriana Schutz dished on some offerings to keep on your radar.
These delicious meatballs have a unique twist: no meat. Made with holland roasted eggplant, caramelized onions, Panko breadcrumbs and Romano cheese, they are a hit. Schutz said, “Many people are looking for healthier options, but still something delicious.” Eggplant meatballs are just that.
Made the way Mamma Gemelli used to make it for Sunday dinner, this eggplant caponata consists of oven roasted baby eggplant, fresh plum tomatoes and sweet vidalia onions. Today, Mamma Gemelli’s daughter Patrizia follows the time-honored family recipe.
The ribs in this dish are slowly smoked for five hours in homemade sweet or spicy Gemelli Oven & Grill Sauce, which is made with caramelized onions. These barbecue ribs are “guaranteed to melt in your mouth and fall right off the bone.”
Gemelli Gourmet Market North serves up a large assortment of homemade mini quiches made from fresh eggs and produce. Combinations run the gamut from vegetable and spinach to mushroom and cheese to broccoli, ham and cheese. “They are very light and…a great item to bring for brunch.”
Maple Raisin Rice Pudding
Perfect for dessert, the homemade maple raisin pudding is made with maple syrup, raisins and a touch of Bourbon. “It has become a staple at our location in Glen Head,” Schutz said. “It is very light and not too sweet. The raisins and maple give it a new flavor.”
