Personal shoppers/stylists aren’t just for celebrities and the one percent. Whether you’re strapped for time or need advice on finding something for a special occasion, the holidays are a great time to use this complimentary service offered at a number of Long Island stores and high-end boutiques. Luxury shopping center Americana Manhasset has a personal shopping team headed by Little Neck, Queens native Danielle Merollo. “Nothing is ever a surprise to me,” said Merollo, who has 27 years of experience. “Aside from the usual clothing, bag and jewelry requests, I’ve been asked to help buy cars and even sell a house…I haven’t said no to anything yet.”
Along with department stores like Saks, Bergdorf’s and Neiman Marcus, the following Long Island boutiques, stores and shopping centers have personal shoppers/stylists for your convenience.
Julianne, Port Washington
The customized shopping experience is alive and well at fashion boutique Julianne. Buyer/stylist Randi Newman and her team of associates can help revamp your wardrobe, rearrange a home closet or alter an outfit. The intimate boutique carries high-end clothing, handbags, shoes and jewelry—but most items are hand selected and go straight to clients’ homes. “I have a wide range of clients, from businesswomen to mothers, and I’m here to service them in any possible way,” said Newman, who has had some customers for 20 years. “I really consider my clients my friends and I’m very honorable with them.” Some of Newman’s favorite pieces are: Rupert Sanderson white boots with black insert; a Saint Laurent gold lame shirt; a Martin Margiela party dress with tulle overlay and small glitter sequins; and the perfect winter coat: black wool with horn toggles by Rick Owens.
Lord & Taylor, Garden City
While construction continues on the Manhasset location’s personal shopping office, Lord & Taylor in Garden City still caters to fashionistas of all ages. Personal shopper Dana Amoroso can be reached online, in-store or by appointment in a private suite with fitting rooms. “I have a large clientele and I’m always looking to meet and assist new clients. Requests range from one specific, special occasion dress or outfit, to an entire career wardrobe. I also do a great deal of vacation and business travel appointments. I help curate just the right look for the right occasion and make it easy and fun for the client. My number one request would be the perfect special occasion dress. And my goal is to always have the client leave with an outfit or wardrobe that thrills them and suits their needs perfectly.” Alterations are available for a small fee and items can be shipped to your home. There’s also a personal shopper in the men’s department.
Americana Manhasset, Manhasset

Nordstrom in Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City
The personal stylists service at Nordstrom includes experts in fashion, beauty, wedding and kids’ clothes. After an email or phone call to discuss your likes and dislikes, an appointment can be made at the store and options will be laid out in a specially prepared dressing room. Whether it’s for a night out on the town or a whole new wardrobe, the service is designed to be “fun, fast and free.” Basic alterations for items purchased at the store are free of charge, and they will ship items. For personalized service on the go, an expert can also email you a style board of handpicked recommendations that you can purchase or save for a later date.
Crinoline Fashion Boutique, Greenport
“Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Everyone needs it at one time or another,” said Carrie Tintle, owner of the homey Crinoline Fashion Boutique that carries a variety of clothing, lingerie, fragrances, skin care products and jewelry from designers all over the world. “I have customers ask if I can find things they might have seen elsewhere. Or, I’m asked to keep an eye out for things they might like and send them photos. At times, I’ve been able to work with different designers, go through different styles and choose patterns the client likes to get things custom made. It’s a lot of fun to see the finished product.” There’s a small fee for alterations and she will deliver items or ship them to another state.
“This time of year I like anything warm and fuzzy,” said Tintle, whose favorite brands include Joseph Ribkoff, Viereck, Planet and Diana Rosh furs. And jewelry from Abby May, Morra Designs, Deborah Grivas and Atelier SYP. “I have a little line of Jessica Simpson shoes that I’m loving. I just got these super cute slip-on sneakers in. They have a little sparkle to them—everyone needs a little sparkle.”
