Ring in 2018 with a Gold Coast Staycation

It’s almost time to pop open that champagne, make a New Year’s resolution and celebrate the start of 2018. There’s no better place to enjoy the magic of the moment than at the Mansion in Glen Cove. The glamorous estate—and all its 55 acres of glory—is ringing in the New Year with a Gatsby extravaganza. Expect to sip on cocktails, dine on delicious food, dance the night away and be part of an anticipated champagne toast at midnight. But why not make the festivities last a little longer? To up the ante, the Mansion in Glen Cove is offering special New Year’s Eve packages. Choose a two-night package complete with a pair of tickets to the Gala, breakfast Sunday morning and on New Year’s Day. Or opt for a one-night package with Gala tickets and New Year’s Day breakfast. Either way, a staycation at this Gold Coast mansion (only 30 miles from New York City) is calling your name.

Sleep in luxury

The Georgian-style circa 1910 mansion, once belonging to oil executive John T. Pratt and congresswoman Ruth Baker Pratt, drips with elegance. It has 187 rich-appointed guest rooms, as well as 600-square-feet suites with a soaking tub, walk-in showers, two closets, a large vanity, a dining table, stereo system and a TV. And that’s not all: the Mansion has an indoor heated pool and hot tub, a steam room, sauna and a 24-hour fitness center. Those heading over via train can also request the Mansion’s house car to pick them up.

Feast on deliciousness

Mansion guests always have the option to take the secret staircase to the third floor to feast on Chef Andy Helliwell’s brasserie-inspired menu. A bar offering craft cocktails, beers, fine wines and spirits is also available. But venturing outside the Mansion promises to be just as enticing. Glen Cove is home to some standout restaurants, including The Cove, a seafood spot overlooking the Brewer’s Marina guaranteeing gorgeous sunset views. And a trip to Glen Cove’s charming downtown is a must with a variety of shops and restaurants, including the popular Downtown Cafe known for its Italian American food. Foodie paradises are also nearby. Dig into steaks at the popular Prime, grab Mexican specialities at Besito or feast on Italian dishes at Jonathan’s Ristorante in Huntington. Guests can also head over to Oyster Bay, an iconic destination that used to attract notable millionaires and billionaires of the past. Diners can eat American fare at Wild Honey, the location where President Theodore Roosevelt once had his summer offices.

Dive into history

The Gold Coast is filled with more historic places to visit. Two in particular will leave you awe-inspired. Step inside Centerport’s Vanderbilt mansion once belonging to the heir of one of America’s most prominent families, William K. Vanderbilt II. Guests can explore the 43-acre property, which holds paintings and furniture from Mr. Vanderbilt’s travels, and hear stories of the past. Since 1889, Glen Cove has also been home to the Webb Institute, a 26-acre campus for engineering founded by master shipbuilder, William H. Webb. It’s so beautiful in fact, FOX’s Gotham used the Webb Institute as a backdrop in 2016.

Shop ’til you drop

Finally, don’t leave the Gold Coast without taking advantage of its exceptional shopping. A trip to Americana Manhasset, often referred to as the Miracle Mile, features 60 shops to fulfill all luxury shopping dreams. Think high-end designers like Hermes, Dior, Chanel, Fendi, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Shoppers can also browse through gorgeous jewelry collections at Tiffany & Co. and London Jewelers. (The latter has been a Long Island favorite for over eight decades!) Boutiques carrying one-of-a-kind items are also scattered throughout various towns on the Gold Coast promising options galore.

The Mansion at Glen Cove is located at 200 Dosoris Ln in Glen Cove.
