Even during the off-season, when days get cold, dark and sluggish, Little Lucharitos in Aquebogue provides patrons with a bright and colorful escape. An extension of popular taqueria Lucharitos in Greenport, the new spot opened at the end of October with a more fast-paced dining approach.
“We tried to make it easier for people to come in and order [right away],” said owner Marc LaMaina. “It’s a small space, [just 800-square-feet]. To counter that we have to give customers the option to grab food and go.”

In efforts to make it more of a takeout-style restaurant, many Lucharitos entrees were taken off the new menu and replaced with tacos. But diners can still find favorites like loaded nachos, burritos and empanadas. And best sellers only offered as a special in Greenport, like the coconut shrimp and local Crescent Farm duck taco, are regulars at the new spot.
One look around the 16-seat place and patrons will see the décor is just as vibrant as the original. There are hanging lights, photos of costumed wrestlers and bright colors on the walls and tables.
“When people walk in, we try to make it so they feel like they are no longer in Aquebogue or Greenport, especially in the winter. As soon as people get their drinks and tacos, they feel like they are on vacation.”
And as the weather gets warmer, Little Lucharitos is planning to extend the vacation vibes to a new outdoor seating area with picnic tables.
Both locations will be closed for renovations and relaxation Jan. 22 to Feb. 1.
