A hibachi restaurant and lounge, appropriately named FYHRE Hibachi, is lighting up Carle Place in what used to be the Sugar Dining Den & Social Club. The new owners are hoping to attract a more diverse crowd to the 6,200-square-foot space.
“Expect the environment to be kid friendly,” said owner Tom Chen. “But we also have a lounge bar for happy hour specials every day.”

Farm-to-Table Restaurant Opens in Garden City
Opened in late December, FYHRE Hibachi is a modern 210-seat spot with pendant light fixtures, booths adjacent to an exposed brick wall and 12 black hibachi tables. Two big hibachi tables are also hidden away in a private room for parties of up to 60 people. Hibachi dinner options are plenty with chicken, fish and steak offerings served with clear soup, green salad, a shrimp appetizer, hibachi vegetables and white rice.
But the lengthy menu doesn’t stop there. Patrons can choose from soups, salads, popular Asian appetizers like boneless spare ribs and vegetable tempura, and a slew of specialty rolls. Two already popular ones include the crazy tuna roll (spicy crunchy tuna with black pepper tuna, avocado, scallion and caviar) and the lover roll (spicy crunchy tuna, salmon and avocado with tuna in the shape of a heart).
FYHRE Hibachi is the fifth venture from Chen and his team. They opened Xaga Sushi Asian Fusion in Hewlett in 2008 followed by another of the same name in Merrick in 2010. Three years later, they launched Lumix Hibachi and Sushi Lounge in Lynbrook. Fhoo Sushi Asian Bistro in Rockville Centre came in 2015. Carle Place seemed like the perfect next move because “it’s a populated area right by the Roosevelt Field Mall.”
FYHRE Hibachi is located at 246 Voice Rd in Carle Place.
