Sub Zero in Patchogue Reopens as Freezology

Ice cream chain Sub Zero in Patchogue has jumped the franchise ship and reopened March 9 as an independent store called Freezology. Still owned and operated by the Zollo family, the place serves the same frozen treats that customers love with a stronger focus on the alcohol-infused ice cream.

The offerings have expanded and patrons can’t get enough of “ice cream cocktails” like the dark chocolate ice cream and bourbon and bananas foster with spiced rum. One ounce of liquor is combined with three scoops of ice cream, ensuring that the final product is five percent alcohol or less.

The shop also sells other ice cream mixtures frozen by liquid nitrogen with endless flavors and toppings. One of the most popular creations is the peanut butter lover sundae. It’s peanut butter ice cream with chopped up Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, brownies, topped with hot fudge and served in a crunchy waffle bowl.

The delicious creations don’t stop there. Wanting to cater to as many people as possible, Freezology also serves treats for nearly every diet. It offers gluten-free, lactose-free, sugar-free and vegan options, as well as low-fat yogurt. The vegan base is nut-free and most of the flavors are dairy-free.

As the weather heats up, Freezology plans to move the party outside. “We are going to get a patio set for outdoor seating,” owner Dave Zollo said.

Freezology is open Wednesday through Sunday from 3pm to 10pm and closed Monday and Tuesday.

Freezology is located at 73 N Ocean Avenue, Patchogue.
