While vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2009, Veronica Bencivenga and her family were in search of something sweet. They stumbled upon Duck Donuts, a family-friendly store with a focus on fresh donuts, and were immediately swept off their feet.
“It was love at first bite,” said Bencivenga. “We made many trips back to OBX and having warm, delicious Duck Donuts became a vacation tradition.”

In 2013, they noticed a green “now franchising” leaflet on the counter of one of the Outer Banks stores and took it home. Three years later they met with Duck Donuts owner Russ DiGilio who founded the company in the Outer Banks’ little coastal town called Duck in 2006. He opened up about wanting to expand the store to include high-quality food and exceptional service. Having food as the focal point of their own family (it’s one way they spend time together after all), the Bencivengas decided to bring New York’s first Duck Donuts right to Hauppauge.
“It was important that our first store be about our community and family,” the Nesconset resident said. “With three school age kids, our family is active in many community groups like Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports teams, PTA committees and religious education…it seemed like a good fit.”
Duck Donuts Hauppauge will make its debut May 19. The store will have a relaxed, beach feel that pays tribute to the flagship. The finishes, fun colors and music will also evoke vacation vibes.
As the name suggests, donuts will be the stars of the show and will be made to order. Think cinnamon sugar, maple bacon, lemon and coconut and chocolate and rainbow sprinkles. Customers will also be able to choose their own combinations in terms of coating, topping and drizzle and even watch them be made in a special viewing area.
When cravings call for sweet and salty, customers can opt for a game-changing donut breakfast sandwich. It starts with a sliced donut topped with the customer’s choice of egg, cheese, sausage or bacon and finished with maple drizzle and chopped bacon. Another fun option will be the donut sundae comprised of a warm donut and a scoop of ice cream.
But what’s a good donut without the caffeine rush to go with it? Any of the creative options can be paired with coffee, espresso (both come hot or iced) or cold brew.
Duck Donuts Hauppauge will be located at 586 Veterans Memorial Hwy Unit 1B
