Kick-off event for the 2016 Tom Twomey Series: A fascinating insight into colonial commerce via a new transcription project involving the account books, journals, ledgers, and documents of Robert Townsend, housed in the Library’s Long Island Collection. Townsend was one of two main members of the Culper Spy Ring, organized under the order of General George Washington at the height of the Revolutionary War. Highlights include historical materials from the collection.
