Join author Clarence Hickey for a reading of his book, “On the East End: The Last Best Times of a Long Island Fishing Community;” a memoir in which the author, a young marine biologist, won a position on the staff of the New York State Ocean Sciences Laboratory in Montauk, N.Y. in 1970. During the next five years, he was involved in landmark studies of Long Island’s then-thriving fisheries. He developed deep bonds with local Baymen and fishermen who called the East End home as he and the Ocean Sciences Lab studied the habits and prospects of more than one hundred species of fish and shellfish.
