Our final spring series program provides a perfect snapshot of the development of music of the classical period. Haydn’s early, cheery, “London” trio (named for the city in which it was written) sets a standard for the period. Mozart’s C major trio, with its crystalline beauty and elegant lines, perhaps best exemplifies the classical period, while Schubert’s E-flat major trio pushes towards romanticism with his grand, flowing melodies, and haunting and ultimately triumphant climax.
