Alan Zweibel, an orginal writer for Saturday Night Live (1975-’80), will discuss his new book, “For This We Left Egypt, A Passover Haggadah for Jews and Those Who Love Them,” at Temple Israel of Lawrence, 140 Central Avenue, Lawrence, N.Y., on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at 10:30a.m.
From the comedic minds of Alan Zweibel, Dave Barry and Adam Mansbach, this haggadah is no ordinary haggadah. If you’ve ever suffered through a seder, you’re wella ware of the fact that the entire evening can last as long as the exodus from Egypt itself. There are countless stories, dozens of blessings and far too many handwashings while the meal turns cold. Now prepare to be entertained by this hilarious parody of the book that’s responsible for this interminable tradition.
Alan Zweibel grew up in Woodmere and attended Hewlett H.S. During his five years at SNL Zweibel wrote many memorable characters, including the Samurai for John Belushi and Roseanne Roseannadanna and Emily Litella for Gilda Radner.
He has won multiple Emmy, Writers Guild of America and TV Critic awards for his work on television, which also includes ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ and ‘Monk.’
