Julie Taymor’s brilliant production, filmed at the Theatre For A New Audience in Brooklyn in 2014, is, of all Shakespeare’s plays, the most phantasmagorical, featuring fairies, spells, and hallucinatory lovers. Taymor turns out a production that’s visually breath-taking, funny, sexy, and darkly poetic. With cinematography by Academy Award-nominated Rodrigo Prieto and music by Academy Award-winning composer Elliot Goldenthal, this is an immersive and inventive cinematic experience.
