Collage artist Steven Palumbo works primarily in the Japanese art of chigiri-e. Chigiri-e is the art of using torn pieces of hand-made papers and adhering them to board or canvas. In some of Palumbo’s work he has added newsprint and newspaper photos bringing an element of social commentary to those compositions. His subject matter varies as does his process but what remains is a story in every torn paper. Palumbo brings the work alive by composing rich and complex compositions while communicating a sensitive personal view. Revealing his ultimate subject of communication and humanity.
