The Tripartite Quartet brings jazz for young audiences in a free interactive concert performance at the Vail on Sunday, October 22.

The talented Stonybrook University ensemble will present their instrument “petting zoo” workshop to introduce musical instruments to children ages 2-7 at 3 pm, followed at 4:30 by the young audience concert recommended for students ages 8-12. The quartet will explore jazz history, blues, and improvisation, as well as the harmony and musical styles that defined jazz from the 1920s to the present day. The quartet will play some of their own creative arrangements of popular jazz standards, which also give voice to their unusual instrumentation of violin, piano, bass and percussion. Young audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments for this event and will be invited to perform with the quartet on some pieces.

This unique afternoon instrument petting zoo and young audience concert is made possible by the Staller Center for the Arts, Arts and Education Outreach Program under the direction of Paul Newland. The event is part of A Vail October, the Vail- Leavitt’s 8-day variety arts festival celebrating the 136th birthday of the historic East End venue.

The Vail-Leavitt Music Hall is located at 18 Peconic Avenue in downtown Riverhead. For a full schedule of events and to order tickets, visit theVail.org. For more information about the festival programming or individual events, please call 631-504-0153 or email: vailleavittproductions@nullgmail.com.
