Walt Whitman Birthplace Association is proud to present internationally acclaimed and award-winning poet Dana Gioia as the 2016 Champion of Literacy. Champions of Literacy are people who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting literacy. The event will also include the Poetry Out Loud program, founded by Dana Gioia and John Barr. Participants will be reading a favorite poem that they have memorize. The event is free and open to the public.
