The Whale Tail Sculpture Project
North Fork Artist Cindy Pease Roe will be taking up residence at Southampton Arts Center from March 21 through April 22. She will be constructing a whale tail sculpture from steel and upcycled derelict lobster traps retrieved from Long Island Sound courtesy of Cornell Extension’s Marine Removal and Prevention Project. The tail will be constructed with marine debris that has been collected along the shores of eastern Long Island. Open studio hours will be scheduled for the community to come in and help with the project. The upsculpted Whale Tail will be unveiled on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, and will be on view on the Southampton Arts Center grounds through Labor Day. Visit southamptonartcenter.org for the public studio session schedule.
