Winning a milestone appeal in a high-profile Long Island same-sex marriage case (Counihan v. Bishop)—where the Appellate Court ruled that the nonbiological spouse “is a parent” of the child during the marriage as much as the birth mother—set a precedent when an upstate New York judge followed suit and ruled in a May 2014 case that “in a same-sex marriage the non-biological spouse has the same common law parental rights as the biological mother if the marriage ends in divorce.”

Sari has more than 30 years of working in these cases.
