From the first consult, Sari Friedman, founding partner at Friedman & Friedman, encourages her clients to “meet the situation head-on.” This unwavering approach is the foundation of Sari’s expertise as she provides the same dedicated attention to every case. Clients come to Sari and share extremely personal stories and she is able to turn these difficult situations into positive solutions.
Winning a milestone appeal in a high-profile Long Island same-sex marriage case (Counihan v. Bishop)—where the Appellate Court ruled that the nonbiological spouse “is a parent” of the child during the marriage as much as the birth mother—set a precedent when an upstate New York judge followed suit and ruled in a May 2014 case that “in a same-sex marriage the non-biological spouse has the same common law parental rights as the biological mother if the marriage ends in divorce.”
Sari has more than 30 years of working in these cases. She is known for staying a step ahead of the opposing attorney; giving voice to those often unheard in the courtroom, the children; and being an advocate for Father’s Rights. Sari’s strong belief in justice for all has led her and Friedman & Friedman to be a leader in matrimonial and family law.
Sari has been recognized in Super Lawyers, a distinction held by only five percent of lawyers, and is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell.
