Union of Giants
words: nadA | photo: lynn spinnato
a union of giants gathered in a wilderness of stones
they secreted the makings of a goddess—
a spirit wise and bold and enough for them all
the smallest of the giants smoothed a stone into an apple
and the largest shaped a tree into a spear
the toughest fashioned the hair of another into a strap
and the wisest hollowed a boulder to catch the falling dreams of the clouds
it was a goddess they were modeling from the four elements
in hopes the sum of the earth’s whispers would render a roar
