7 Can’t Miss Weekend Events

What: Bug Lighthouse Cruise and Tour
Where: East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation (103 3rd Street)
When: Saturdays, 5/26-10/27, 4-6pm, Sundays, 6/24-10/28, 12-2pm, Wednesdays 6/20-8/29, 10am-12pm
Why Go: Enjoy a round-trip cruise from the Railroad Dock in Greenport to Long Beach Bar “Bug” Light in Orient while learning Bug Light history. You can also explore inside the iconic lighthouse, which is a symbol dedicated to keeping the Long Island maritime heritage alive. Tickets are $39 per person, $29 per East End Seaport Members, military and seniors (62+) and $19 per youth aged 3-15. This helps raise funds for repairs for the lighthouse that the East End Seaport Museum takes care of and the United States Coast Guard maintains. Click to go


What: Toast to our Bays
Where: Macari Vineyards (24385 Main Road)
When: Friday, June 22, 5-8pm
Why Go: Help protect and preserve Long Island’s waters by joining Peconic Baykeeper and Macari Vineyards for this second annual event. Enjoy an evening of local seafood and wine while giving a toast to the Long Island bays. Tickets will be available at the door or online for $40 per person. All proceeds go to Peconic Baykeeper. What: Q104.3 Dad Fest
Where: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum (1255 Hempstead Turnpike)
When: Saturday, June 23, 12-5pm
Why Go: Dads are able to compete in obstacle course challenges such as a football toss, miniature golf, speed pitching and more at this event presented by Q104.3. This family event also features live music by the Bourbon Stills band, food vendors, a beer garden and kid’s activities. Special guest appearances include Mr. Met, Mookie Wilson, Wesley Walker and Howie Rose. Click to go


What: NYC Dance Week: Dancer for a Day Program
Where: Joffrey Ballet School (434 Avenue of the Americas, 3rd Floor)
When: Saturday, June 23, 10am-3pm
Why Go: Young dance enthusiasts can experience a day in the life of a professional dancer. Dancer for a Day will choose up to 20 youth, ages 10-15, to participate in a day of dance classes, workshopping, lunch and a private performance from a NYC10 dance company. Click to go

What: Cradle-Con: A Comic, Collectible, & Pop Culture Con
Where: Cradle of Aviation Museum (Charles Lindbergh Blvd)
When: Saturday, June 23, 10am-7pm-Sunday, June 24, 10am-5pm
Why Go: Comic book fans can bond over meeting their favorite authors and cosplayers can show off their new looks at this non-profit celebration of comic book culture. Inspired by comic book fans, this event will provide a brand new experience for readers to explore their passions. The event is presented by Best Comics International and all proceeds benefit the Cradle of Aviation Museum’s education and preservation programs. Adult pre-sale tickets are $20, children (aged 2-12) pre-sale tickets are $10 and weekend passes are available online only for $30. Click to go


What: NYSoM Superhero Sci-Fi Festival
Where: Hecksher Community Garden (124 Scholes Street)
When: Saturday, June 23, 2-6pm
Why Go: New York State of Mind is hosting this free event to unleash the superhero in each of us. During this family event, you can create your own superhero, make your own lightsaber, play classic carnival games and shop in a superhero artisan market. Each hour will be devoted to a different category: Science Fiction Wonder Hour, DC Power Hour, Star Wars Galaxy Hour, Marvel Madness. Click to go

When: Saturday, June 23, 11am-4pm
